Project Management: Implementing the MerlinOne Digital Asset Management System at Wisconsin Watch

In 2018, after two years of research, I led the implementation of the MerlinOne digital asset management system for the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism — assuring that all the Center’s digital content is centrally located, highly searchable, and totally secure. The Center now stores more than 8,000 digital assets in its growing digital archive, the majority of which are photographs.

Each photograph contains a wealth of searchable metadata, including caption, keywords, bylines, and dates taken and uploaded. This allows staff to save time looking for and sharing assets, to work offsite as easily as in the office, and to have a secure system to keep assets safe. Implementing this system transformed the Center into a more nimble, agile and professional operation, able to more quickly respond to the demanding visual needs of the editorial and business teams.
